Books bibliophiles want to see adapted for the big screen
Will there be a newer version of fitness after this pandemic ends? Or will we go back to how things were?
A lot of people consider their gyms their second homes.
We form friendships through sweat and the challenges of our workout routines. This pandemic has uprooted a lot of people from their usual routines. With fitness facilities being high-risk areas for contraction of the virus, it seems we cannot get back to our normal workout routines anytime soon. It also begs the question, are there going to be new motives for getting fit in the new normal?
As I look back on fitness trends pre-Covid-19, the majority of the motivation for going to the gym is looks, and perhaps, strength and health could be secondary. However, for a lot of people now in this time of Covid-19, especially those with some form of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, they could start thinking of exercise as an essential tool to get to a healthier place.
We hear about all these
“immune-boosting” practices. It does not harm us to think that being fitter will help us fight Covid-19.
So what type of fitness goals might people have during this pandemic and maybe after that?
Freedom for our health. We see young people getting sick from heart disease, diabetes and other lifestyle diseases. With medication and a healthy lifestyle, lifestyle disease can be ameliorated. We see testimonials of people successfully battling heart disease and getting back stronger.
The need to be healthy to better care for the people we love. Let’s face it, the only way
we can take good care of others is when we take care of ourselves first. Getting fit enables us to do more and be more for the people we love most.
Preventing diseases. By now we understand the cost of being sick, be it from Covid-19 or from other diseases. We exercise because we know that it is one way that we can stay away from disease. While the usual goals for being fit (looking good and losing weight) are still going to stay, I think during and after this pandemic, we will see more fitness consumers dig deeper into their “why” for staying healthy and fit.
Wishing all of us a fitter week ahead!
