Airport passengers required to wear face shields

The Department of Transportation also amended its “No Face Shield, No Ride” policy by prohibiting the use of eye protectors as an alternative to face shields

ARRIVING and departing passengers at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) will be required to wear face shields in addition to wearing face masks.

In an advisory it issued on Friday, Aug. 7, 2020, the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA) said they are requiring arriving and departing passengers to wear both face shields and face masks as part of their compliance to the “No Face Shield, No Ride” policy mandated by the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Aside from passengers, airport personnel are also required to wear face shields and masks while on the airport premises.

“We ask for the cooperation of all stakeholders in adhering to health and safety procedures of the airport. The well-being of passengers and staff remains MCIA’s topmost priority in this continuing global battle against Covid-19,” reads a portion of the advisory.

In a related development, DOTr officials have amended its memorandum circular which initially allowed the use of an eye protector as an alternative to a face shield.

“Strictly require all drivers, conductors and passengers of PUVs to wear face masks and face shields inside PUVs. Failure to wear face mask and face shield shall be a reasonable ground to refuse/deny boarding in PUV,” reads a portion of the memorandum.

The “No Face Shield, No Ride” Policy is expected to be implemented in all modes of public transportation, whether through sea, land or air, on Aug. 15. /
