SHIPPING company 2 GO officially unveiled its newest roll-on roll-off (roro) passenger vessel, mv 2GO Maligaya, on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 with a route to and from Manila, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro.

Mv 2GO Maligaya has a passenger capacity of 800 with 225 rooms and more container capacity. It is considered the “fastest, largest and the most state-of-the-art roro passenger ship sailing in the Philippine waters.” With a height of 29 meters (about that of a 10-story building), mv 2GO Maligaya is part of 2GO’s modernization program.

“This is to provide a better experience for our passengers and customers,” Dan Fernan, vice president and head of sea solutions for 2GO Group Inc., said.

Fernan said passengers can now be accommodated in much bigger room spaces, perfect for social distancing. The ship is also equipped with two restaurants, a salon, a convenience store, a cafe, a prayer room and a gaming and entertainment room.

With a top speed of 23.5 knots, it takes passengers and cargoes from Manila to Cebu in just 17 hours.

The vessel is in compliance with the International Maritime Organization, International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, and the International Association of Classification Societies. It is also IMO 2020 ready.

2GO acquired the vessel from Japan, and is set to sail its maiden voyage in the Philippine waters in June.

The newly purchased ship will be part of 2GO’s fleet of 10 roro-passenger and freighter vessels, sailing to 20 major ports of call, linking Manila to the Visayas and Mindanao.

“This new acquisition is part of our continuing efforts to upgrade our fleet, modernize our operations, and provide a better passenger experience in sea travel. As destinations reopen their doors to local tourists, we are ready to bring Filipinos to their favorite Philippine islands,” 2GO assistant vice president of marketing Blessie Cruz said.

Aside from expanding its fleet, 2GO Travel also activated more than 20 online and offline payment channels to support a safer and more convenient ticket booking experience for its passengers.
