Marcos remembers Filipino heroism, hails frontliners, agriculture workers

-

PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. urged the public on Monday, August 29, 2022, to always remember the heroic deeds of those who fought for the land and to be heroes in their own ways for the country’s better future.

Marcos led the commemoration of the National Heroes Day and wreath-laying ceremony at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

In his message, Marcos recognized the extraordinary courage and valor of Filipino men and women who fought and sacrificed in order for the country to get to what it is today.

“We remember and honor each of them for the sacrifices they made in our behalf so that we may live in peace, security and liberty as well as realize our full potential as Filipinos,” he said.

“We must never forget them as their legacy of heroism lives on in the hearts of our medical professionals, civil servants, uniformed personnel and ordinary citizens who toil daily to keep the Filipino dream alive,” he added.

In his speech, Marcos also commended the modern day heroes of the country, such as the agriculture workers who ensure food for each Filipino family, overseas Filipino workers (OFW) who endure the pain of being away in order to secure their family’s future, healthcare workers who put their own lives at risk amid the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic and the teachers who ensure the safe resumption of in-person classes two years after the pandemic broke.

Marcos also recognized the business owners, big or small, for continuing their businesses that contribute to the country’s economy, especially amid the road to recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the laborers who strengthen the foundation of the economy and the society.

He also acknowledged other frontliners, such as the police, soldiers, barangay officials and community leaders who fought hand in hand with the government amid the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as to ensure peace and order in the communities.

Marcos said his government will work for the construction of hospitals in Visayas and Mindanao for the benefit of war veterans and to push for more measures to ensure their welfare, especially concerning their health.

Marcos reiterated the government’s call for the eligible Filipinos to get vaccinated against Covid-19 as their share for the country’s economic recovery amid the pandemic.
