Cebu FC destroys Mendiola FC

CEBU FC took the top of the 2022 Philippine­s Football League (PFL) after a dominant 6-2 victory over Mendiola FC 1991 last Saturday, September 24, 2022, at the City of Imus Grand Stand.

Cebu FC went on a hot start and immediatel­y tested former Don Bosco goalkeeper Joseph Kei Ceniza. Chima Uzoka beat Ceniza and scored the opening goal in the 17th minute. JB Borlongan, the league’s leader in assists, joined in on the fray and hit the back of the net in the 37th minute for a 2-0 lead for the Gentle Giants.

Sam Junior retaliated and scored Mendiola FC’s first goal in the second minute of added time in the first half.

Daniel Gadia opened up the second half with a goal in the 51st minute. But Jimson Crestal kept it close with a goal in the 65th to make to trim down Cebu FC’s lead to 3-2.

Cebu FC, however, made a late push that sealed the match. Uzoka scored a brace in the 81st minute, while substitute Papu Corsame scored back-to-back goals in the 87th and 90th minute.

On the other hand, Stallion Laguna FC beat Azkals Developmen­t Team (ADT), 2-0, at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.

Senegalese striker Abou Sy had an impressive performanc­e and scored a brace to lead Stallion FC to victory.

Sy hit the back of the net in the 31st minute and finished off the Stephan Schrock-led ADT with another goal in the 73rd minute.

Cebu FC is now at the top of the table with 17 points, followed by idle Kaya FC-Iloilo with 15 points at second place. Defending champion United City is at third with 13 points, while Stallion FC remained at fourth place with nine points. ADT is fifth with five points, Mendiola FC is sixth with three points and Maharlika Manila FC is at the bottom of the table with no points.
