-

ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL -- A total of 250 farmers from the three districts here gathered and showcased their bountiful agricultural harvests in celebration of Farmers’ Day at the Samal multi-purpose gym last October 15.

The annual event is celebrated by the Local Government Unit (LGU) through the City Agriculture Office (Cagro). It was also held in celebration of World Food Day. It has been a regular program by Cagro for several years now.

The celebration is aimed at recognizing the value and essential role of farmers in agriculture and economic development of the city. It also served as thanksgiving for their bountiful crop and for them to meet with other farmers all over the island.

There were six different councils/group of farmers coming from three districts of the city namely: Corn Council, San Isidro Small Farmer’s Association (Sispa), Samal Island Mango Cooperative (Simco) Rural Improvement Club (RIC), Island Cut Flowers Farmer’s Association and Head, Heart, Hands and Health (4H) Club of the youth group.

“Gihatagan sa atong local nga panggamhanan ang atong agrikultura og ensaktong pundo tungod kini ang pinakaimportante nga sector sa atong syudad alang sa pagsegurado sa atong pagkaon. Maong malipayon ug mapasalamaton ako sa nakita karon nga ang tanang mga mag-uuma sa Samal nagkatapok dala ang tagsa-tagsa ka mga abot gikan sa kaumahan ug pagsadya sa kaabunda niini (The city gov’t allocates sufficient funds for agriculture as it is the most important sector for food security. I’m happy and thankful that farmers of Samal are gathered here and brought their products for us to celebrate a bountiful harvest),” Igacos Mayor Mayor Aniano P. Antalan said. Samal Info.
