Separate games for lumads, Muslims

THIS year’s tribal games dubbed as Dula Kadayawan will be held separately for lumads and Muslims on August 18 at the People’s Park open grounds.

Executive deputy on Dula Kadayawan event, Tommy Iñigo explained in yesterday's I-Speak Forum at the City Hall that repreFIVE sentatives of the Muslim community were late in submitting their suggested tribal games.

“Thus, we haven’t added their suggestions on the final list,” he said.

They, instead, decided to stage different games for the other lumads participating in the event and

the Muslims.

The lumads will still play the iklot, bibinayo, totaringki, karang, tug of war, aakow, solopot, kakasing, and bubontog. Muslims, on the other hand, will compete against each other on a different set which includes: sipa sa manggis, sipa sa lama, and tug of war.

The games will start at 8 a.m. while the Muslims will start at 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

The delegates for the Dula sa Kadayawan also designed their own costumes that they will wear while competing.

This year’s total budget for the tribal games amounted to P400,000 but newly installed Davao City Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) chief Mikey Aportadera said they are still working on lowering the cost of the event.

“We are vying for simplicity this time. Thus, we will be focusing on how the delegates would enjoy the games,” Aportadera said. With CCC
