ISLAND Garden City of Samal (Igacos) – The set of the City Scholarship Program Officers for 2016 was revealed as they took oath last July 25 at the Samal Multi-purpose Gymnasium.

A total of 14 officers took their oath.

Three of them were newly-appointed officers including the new City Scholarship Program Coordinator Florencio Thaddeus T. Valera and Indigenous People (IP) Rep. Datu Alfonso San Juan.

The appointments were made by the new administration of Igacos, choosing the best and competent individuals for each post.

The local government unit (LGU) has been actively doing the City Scholarship Program for more than 10 years now.

Education is now one of its top priorities for the development of Igacos.

“We have 210 slots of city scholars. Right now, we need to fill in more slots as presently have 106 registered scholars. We want more students to avail scholarship slots especially those who need and deserve it”, Valera said.

The committee will also conduct a monthly meeting with the city scholars to properly monitor their condition and status in their respective schools.

During his term as coordinator, Valera vows to strengthen the information drive about scholarship program in all barangays and all0 transactions will be transparent.

All permanent residents of Igacos for at least 5 years are encouraged to apply for the City Scholarship program.

The slots are only limited thus, individuals who aspire to win a scholarship grant must pass a written examination. CIO IGACOS
