Infiesto is open chess champion

JAMES Infiesto emerged champion of the 2016 Mayor Inday Sara and Vice Mayor Pulong Duterte Kadayawan Open Chess Tournament held Sunday at Damosa Market Basket in Lanang, Davao City.

Infiesto, regional director of the National Chess Federation of the Philippine­s (NCFP), scored perfect six points in the NCFPsancti­oned event. He outclassed next two placers Mojimar Tomang and Reynaldo Quiñonez. Tomang edged out fellow 5.5 pointer Quiñonez via superior tie-breaks.

Infiesto pocketed a cash prize of P2,500 while Tomang and Reynaldo received P1,000 and P700, respective­ly.

Special awardees were James Reigh Sullano (best elementary boys), Samantha Umayan (best elementary girls), Earl Rhay Mantilla (best high school boys), Honey Grace Buenafe (best high school girls), Jon Christian Lesaca (best college men), Florenz Dela Cruz (best college women), Mary Israel Palero (top female), Lydon Sombilon (top executive), Genaro Bandonado (top senior), Ferdinand Leysa (top employee) and Henry Roger Lopez (top differentl­y abled person).

The event was organized as part of the 31st Kadayawan Sports Festival presented by the city government of Davao through the Sports Developmen­t Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDDCMO).
