New direction
Revisions in Dacs sports program
SOME improvements and revisions were made in the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) sports programs to be more aligned with the objectives of the Phil- ippine Sports Commission (PSC) to make sports an instrument for peace and development.
This was bared by Dacs executive director Jimmie Loe Dela Vega who guested in yesterday's Davao Sportwriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao.
Dela Vega said the changes focused on the needs of the community.
"This is one of the major direction that we are taking to make sports a program to promote community help, peace and understanding, not just to focus on athletic talents," he said.
They also came up with development program to foster the athletes with good attitudes and perspective in such a way that they would have a better understanding and appreciation of their role as citizens of the community.
"As athletes, they can use that to promote good citizenship in our country. In whatever events that the athletes are engaging, we would like them to be conscious that it is not just about an athletic event but an opportunity to be good role models to the society," Dela Vega.
The Dacs new sports program also includes the formation and transformation of the character, focusing more on the values and not on the winning.
Dela Vega added that the collegiate category opened last week since the basic education category just concluded.
"As part of our revisions, we made the sports festival a weeklong event to give favor to those schools who came from a great distance, since the previous Dacs sportsfest lasted almost a month."
Dela Vega said most of the events were held at the Philippine Womens College (PWC).
The Dacs sportsfest college category is being held in preparation for the Mindanao Ceap Games slated first week of December at the Ateneo de Zamboanga. ABM
