ISLAND Garden City of Samal (Igacos) - In observance of the Family week celebration, 30 young couples attended the culmination program of this year's celebration dubbed as “Matatag na Pamilya, Maunlad na Bansa”.

The celebration was opened with a thanksgiving eucharistic mass led by Fr. Danilo Dotollo, DCD last Monday, September 26 at the Samal Multipurpose Gymnasium Penaplata, Samal District.

The theme demonstrated a strong sense of family values, as well as love for their communities.

The one-week activity includes the seminar on City Parent Education Congress Service (CPEC) and Violence in relation to the Republic Act 9262, a law that protects the right of women and children.

The seminar was conducted in all three districts.

The City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) has invited those families who have experienced domestic violence, and whose children are victims of any form of violence.

“Lig-on na pamilya, lig-on usab ang kumunidad ug dako kining tabang sa pag uswag. (A strong family contributes largely to a progressive community) because family is the basic unit of the society.” Igacos Mayor Al David T. Uy said.

Deputy Mayor Reynaldo Jose of Samal District emphasized the love and respect between husband and wife should be maintained amid all challenges.

“Resilient and Caring” family is this year’s theme, indeed, no matter how hard and difficult problems came to a family, the members must hold on to one another, must be flexible and adoptable, just like a bamboo plant at whatever time the strong wind strikes, the bamboo plant still stands on the ground. Hence, we need to give importance to strengthening family ties and to take care of each other, having a home to grow up in. A strong family contributes largely to a progressive society,” City Councilor and Committee on Family and Children Teresita B. Antalan said.

Sr. Insp. Ruth B. Dizon, of the Women's and Children's Protection Desk (WCPD) of Penaplata police, shared inputs on RA 9262 and RA 7610.

Couples participated in different games.

Prizes were given to the respective winners and consolation prizes were also given to those non-winners.
