RMC hands Emar’s 1st loss
EARLY favorite Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Bulldogs escaped past Emar Human and Environment College (Ehec), 83-81, to keep its unbeaten slate in the resumption of the Unit 5 Private School Athletic Association (Prisaa) Meet secondary basketball tournament held at the RMC Gym Thursday.
The Henry Asilum-mentored Bulldogs improved to a 5-0 win-loss card as Emar tasted its first defeat and dropped to 4-1.
Asilum, in an interview with SunStar Davao, said it was a seesaw game as Emar was up 14-11 at the end of the first period, but RMC snatched a 57-53 lead in the last minute of the third period behind the heroics of Jexter Jarligo.
Asilum said it was a gruelling game for them, recalling that Emar took an 81-79 advantage barely two minutes left in the game.
But Emar succumbed to a series of errors that opened an opportunity for RMC's Chris Andrew Parian to ignite a four-point rally en-route to winning the match.
"We didn't expect to win, sabi ko okay lang matalo ng isang beses kasi pasok na din kami sa semis win or lose, pero naka tsamba talaga, sabi ko sa kanila mas importante ang semifinals game namin kasi para di masayang ang undefeated record namin" Asilum added.
Jarligo buried 27 points as Parian added 15 points.
Emar, for its part, relied on Gabriel Dolormente who canned 18.
RMC was also composed of Melvin James Ando, Allen Eder, Darel Bariquit, Harvey Calatrava, Jexter Jarligo, Chris Andrew Parian, Zhyfel Jubay, Prince John Luar, Jules Mirafelix, Alfie Lacadan, Julian Madulara, Simon Laurence Pancho, Chadnee Tagat, and Elmarc Subingsubing.
RMC will next face the University of Mindanao (UM) in the crossover semifinals while Emar is pitted against Agro-Industrial Foundation College (AIFCP).
In another game, Independent Liberty Baptist Academy survived past Lamb of God Sped Academy 45-41. ABM
