How to be you po?

IMAGINE this. Our favorite celebrity, athlete, blogger or the amazing someone posts a picture of him or herself doing some cool stuff or uploaded another fanatical selfie. Without a second thought, we double-tap on the image, then hurriedly type the following words before the rest of the comment section drowns us out: “How to be you po?” In philosophy, the question Who am I is one of the chief, exhausting yet fulfilling questions to answer and yet here we are here asking about how to become others.

“How to be you po?” is actually one of the most used and famous annotations on social media now. It’s more than likely we’re uttering these words in jest. We don’t actually want to be them, although in some ways, we’d like to be like them.

Whether we like it or not, humans are social beings by nature. We identify ourselves in great relation to others. So naturally, there’s a tendency to wish or be obsessed to be like the people at the top of the food chain. Consequently, social media boost it like it has never really been before.

A gentle reminder my friends: it is okay to let our little fascination nourish—but not consume us. What is out of beat is to forego our personal identity to idolize an actor, baller, musician and the like. More so, make fun of someone with sarcastic catch phrases.

As they say, building a personal brand online is not a sprint, and something that happens overnight. Don’t aim for perfection. Instead, allow your original self to take place. All we need is to be true to ourselves while still keeping some things in responsible concealment.
