New Gaisano Cup board bared
THE longest-running youth basketball league in Davao City, the Gaisano Grand (GG) Cup, has a new board of commissioners.
The new management committee is composed of Womens’ National Collegiate Athletic Association (WNCAA) Mindanao head Dr. Arlene De Vera, Pastor Eladio Varguez, former GS Cup commissioner Ryan Ramiterri and GG Cup tournament director Rael Diaz.
Rameterri, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, said the Gaisano Grand Citimall management designated them to revive the event as the management will take charge with the funding.
"Gaisano tried to contact the previous commissioners pero hindi na talaga sila ma reach kaya the management called me to be the new in-charge," Rameterri said.
Diaz, for his part, said each commissioner has her or his own duties and responsibilities.
Diaz also said that he was asked by Rametteri to do the operation as well as look for two other commissioners compelete the committee. Thus, he tapped De Vera and Varguez for the documentation and disciplinary action.
The GG Cup, dubbed as the "Game of the Rising Stars", is sanctioned by Nabro Eastern Mindanao and National Referees Commission (Narecom) since it is not anymore sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
Diaz also said that he already went to former commissioner lawyer Francis Calatrava and SBP liason officer Ronel Leuterio to talk about the changes.
"Nabigla sila sa mga changes ng committee pero eto kasi ang gusto ng Gaisano na mangyari kaya sumusunod lang ako," Diaz said.
Diaz also talked to the SBP for the officiating but they declined as the organization now has its new rules that the Gaisano Grand Cup could not adhere to because of budget constraints.
Calatrava, in a separate interview, said the SBP did not leave the Gaisano Grand Cup, saying they were not informed of the changes right away and both parties were not able to agree on the officiating fees.
