Dranhs girls beat HCDC in overtime
DANIEL R. Aguinaldo High School (Dranhs) girls team outlasted Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC), 43-39, via overtime in the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned Davao Developmental Basketball League (DDBL) girls junior category held at the Gold Star Gym in Bo. Obrero yesterday.
Dranhs was up, 36-33, in the final 47 seconds of the fourth quarter when former Palaro player Anjanette Panuncillon of HCDC attacked the basket for a three-point play to tie the match, 36-all, at the end of regulation.
Dranhs' Aleah Clapano and Rhea Ville Bausin fueled a four-point rally in the five-minute extension en-route to securing the match.
It was a painful loss for HCDC since ace player Panuncillon succumbed to a serious injury and will have to be sidelines in their remaining games.
Dranhs improved to a 3-2 win-loss record while HCDC dropped to 0-2.
Dranhs guard Bausin scored game-high 22 points as teammate Clapano added 14.
Panuncillon, however, made 18 points for HCDC in a losing effort.
Dranhs head coach Ronnie Berato, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said he's happy that they pulled it off against a strong team following a victoy over Cabantian National High School in double over time.
"Our problem sa mga games namin kasi kaya laging umaabot sa overtime is we tend to relax kapag nakalamang na and ang tendency nakakahabol sila," Berato said.
Berato added that they will practice more for the crossover semifinals considering that Ateneo de Davao University will be their opponent.
Dranhs was bannered by Aleah Clapano, Rhea Ville Bausin, Yukie Ishii, Jan Carla Melecio, Mary Grace Sarmiento, Marguirre Lequin, Rea Fe Ong, Catherine Villamor, Maureen Aquintana, Mary Jane Dayandayan, Severa Marie Delponso and Mecca Gumapac.
