Tagumenyo farmers star in 4th Ugmad Festival
October appears to be the month of nonstop harvest for Tagumenyo farmers and fisherfolks as the local government and the whole of Tagum celebrate this year’s Ugmad Festival, slated with activities recognizing the role of farmers and celebrating the city’s bountiful harvest.
Currently on its 4th installment, Ugmad Festival is formally opened last October 14, 2016 which was highlighted by Carroza y Pintados de Carabao, a parade of painted Carabaos and decorated Carrozas on the stretch of JV Ayala Avenue.
Another highlight of this three-week celebration is the Farmers’ Recognition last October 17, where farmers of different agricultural commodities were recognized with their support and contributions to the programs implemented by the LGU in achieving optimum food availability and affordability.
The festival is also showcasing competitions for farmers such as Agrilympics, Bangkarera de Sagwan and Search for Best Lechon Competition; and entertainment events for festival-goers like the Ugmad Variety Show, the Nightly Entertainment, Dog Show and a Gay Pageant.
According to City Agriculturist Harold Dawa, this celebration aims to acknowledge the noble role of farmers towards food security and to prove that the local government gives importance to its agrarian communities amid the massive structural and economic development being experienced by Tagum City.
There will also be a Fisher folk Forum that intends to capacitate the fishermen of Tagum with the latest trend in aquaculture and fish farming thereby increasing their productivity.
