Heavy rain causes flood in DavSur

- Orlando B. Dinoy

SEVERAL parts of Davao del Sur were flooded during a heavy downpour last Tuesday afternoon.

Some provincial roads were also damaged by the flood as some drainage areas in Bansalan, Matanao, and Magsaysay were already overflowing with water.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pag-Asa), a localized thunderstorm caused the heavy downpour in Davao Region.

In the latest weather outlook of Pag-Asa, a big part of Mindanao will experience thunder and lightnings that are likely to bring flood and landslides.

Due to this, the Digos City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) are now monitoring the mountains and riverbanks to observe the weather.

CDRRMC action officer Gary Einstein Taghoy said that it is much better to be prepared for whatever calamity that might strike.

Pag-asa has clarified though that they have not seen weather disturbance yet as of press time but added that the region will continue to experience rain due to the Ridge of High Pressure that hit Luzon.

People who are living in the mountains that are prone to landslide are also advised to be careful.

CDRRMC members are also ready to respond to any reports especially when La Niña comes.
