SB probes project sans early warning device
MATANAO, Davao Del Sur– The committee on infrastructure is calling for the contractors and other personnel of the National Irrigators Association (NIA) and Badagoy Irrigators Association to talk about mounting early warning device for a project in their area.
Members of the Council were alarmed after hearing the report that a motorcycle had fallen off an irrigation canal expansion area which is being constructed in Barangay Poblacion last Friday.
During the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) session last Tuesday afternoon, Councilor Frederick Juban urged that those who were behind the project must be summoned during their committee meeting after the celebration of All Saint’s day.
Presiding chair councilor Elmer Campiano also agreed to do the same after they had seen that the project lacked early warning device and is dangerous for the motorcyclists that are not familiar with the place.
The irrigation project will serve as the passageway of the water flowing from the rice fields of the farmers in Barangay San Miguel, Bangkal, Buas and Cebusa.
SB members were all the more surprised upon learning that the signage in the irrigation project bears a caption that says “Resumed Speed, Deep Excavation Ahead” instead of “Reduce Speed.”
Officials suggested that hog wires must be placed in every corner of the construction site after they had found that the excavated drainage is deep and that another accident must be avoided.
Vice Mayor and OIC mayor Alfredo Panerio also agreed about what his colleagues proposed to make after he had personally seen that the project is dangerous and that there is a need for the public to be warned about it. Orlando B. Dinoy
