Southshield cops 8U crown
THE Southshield Football Club clinched the eight and under division title of the 10th S.O.S. Children's Village Football Festival after beating its arch-rival Hyenas FC, 3-0, at the Crocodile Park Football field over the weekend.
Midfielder Karlos Daniel Donado led the charge for Southshield after knocking in two goals in the second half that was followed up by teammate Yuan Jacob Guingguing who netted another goal in the remaining five minutes to secure the win.
The Greg Napuran-coached Southshield, thus, avenged its loss to the Hyenas in the Edward "Chaya" Lam Foot Festival.
Napuran, in a phone interview with Sun.Star Davao, cited their victory through open communication. He welcomed suggestions from his players, saying, "Nag share lang kami ng mga dapat gawin and they were able to deliver."
He added that he trusted the capabilities of his players, particularly on the defensive side.
Napuran also thanked the parents of the kids for their support.
Southshield FC also relied on the services of Jian Matthew Goyonan, Nigel Balagon, Rhythm Demecillo, Ruzhen Villarmia, Luiz Digman, John Narra, Anthony Elorde, Dwayne James Kierulf and Luiz Arellano.
Southshield FC will next compete in Tagum City on Oct. 29.
The Southshield FC 10-under squad, meanwhile, placed second after losing to the Rover Football Club, 1-3, in their titular clash.
The bootfest was presented by S.O.S. Children's Village in partnership with Maharlika Sports Development Institutes Inc.
