- By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan

POPULAR Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings will end up champion if its Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup finals series with the San Miguel Beermen, which starts with Game 1 today, stretches to Game 7, Dabawenyo fans said.

Former PBA player Eric Diamse, tournament director of Christian Basketball Group of Davao, said the Barangay Ginebra fans will be a big factor for the team’s title victory in the series.

Diamse, who was a guest at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao yesterday, said: “Nasa Ginebra talaga ang crowd although both teams malalakas.”

Fellow DSA guest Ateneo de Davao Grade School’s Mark Samante, meanwhile, said: “It will be Ginebra in Game 7. But San Miguel can win it in Game 6.”

University of Mindanao (UM) sports director Joaquin “Boy” Sarabia, for his part, said both teams have what it takes to win the championships.

“It can go either way. But I think it will go to Ginebra in Game 7. I hope it will be Ginebra,” Sarabia said.

Balibolista de Dabaw’s Abet Bernan said that he too believes Ginebra will romp away with the title. He said, “Ginebra kasi may pusong maglaro.” Ginebra and San Miguel both earned finals tickets after winning Game 7s of their respective semifinals series. Ginebra outlasted Star Hotshots while San Miguel subdued Talk N’ Text KaTropa.
