Local execs meet vs illegal logging

-

THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources 11 (DENR 11) and members of the Antiillegal Task Force (AILTF) converged Wednesday to curb recurring illegallogging activities in the region.

DENR 11 Director Ruth Tawantawan, in a press statement posted on their Facebook page, said that the meeting was in line with the directive of Environment Secretary Regina Paz L. Lopez to end illegal logging operations in every region. Thus, they are seeking the support and assistance of law enforcers.

The officials came up with new strategies and tactics on how to stop ille-

gal logging activities in the areas of Davao Oriental, Compostela Valley Province and Davao del Norte as these provinces have been considered as hotspots.

Tawantawan added that the Department is serious with its campaign as Lopez has given all Provincial and Community Environment and Natural Resources Officers (Penros and Cenros) a month to clean up their areas of responsibility, otherwise, they will be replaced.

"This marching order was made because these illegal logging activities have already come to the attention of the President and unfortunately, Region 11 is still seen as one of the illegal logging capitals in the country," she said.ICTFor full story visit www.sunstar.com. ph/davao/)
