Christian cagefest set

- ABM

THE Christian Basketball Group of Davao (CBGD) will hold a Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP)-sanctioned league that will kick off in April at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

CBGD league director Eric Diamse bared this during the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at The Annex Events Center of SM City Davao.

Diamse said the league was established in 2012 with a purpose of allowing the participants to encounter a Christianguided program through basketball.

"Our main objective is the values transformation of the players during the league," said Diamse who added that the tournament will be more than basketball.

He also said that during the half-time of each game comes a sharing of word of God and values formation.

Diamse, however, said teams may register in 15-below, 20-below, 30-below and open categories. But only 10 slots will be catered in every category. Teams must represent a church.

"We encourage church teams to invite non-members and seek opportunity to share with them the word of God," he said.

Registration fee is P3,000 per team. It will cover cash prizes and officiating fees.

Diamse added that most of the games will be played in a vacant basketball court of different barangays but the usual venue for the opening tip-off is at the Almendras Gym.
