Nabbed ‘Last 2’ collector sued

A WOMAN is facing charges before the court after she was caught in the act of collecting bets for the game "last two" in Dumanlas, Buhangin District in Davao City.

Charged with violation of Republic Act 9287, otherwise known as penalties for illegal number game, is Honey Mae Ong Batiancila, a resident of the same address.

In a resolution approved on March 15, prosecutor Daniel M. Fernandez found probable cause to charge the accused based on the complaint filed by Buhangin police.

Batiancila was found in possession of one white board with list of numbers, 15 tally sheets with markings, calculator, pilot pentel pen and three onefourth size carbon.

The police also recovered from the accused one paired scissor, 11 stubs with bets, two ballpens, one brown ice cream container, one tupperware, pouch and P225 cash.

Fernandez said he finds the arrest valid and in accordance to the law. He added that the complaint was resolved after the accused opted to answer the allegation­s to her.

Meanwhile, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has filed 114 cases for

anti-illegal gambling at Davao City Prosecutio­n Office(CPO) from February 1 to March 22, this year.

Under section 4 of the Republic Act 9287, possession of any gambling parapherna­lia and other materials used in the illegal numbers game operation is deemed prima facie evidence of an illegal gambling activity. ICT
