MATI CITY, Davao Oriental-- A 17 year-old boxer of Davao City Durians settled for a silver medal instead after losing his championship bout in the Davao Region Athletic Association (Davraa) Meet 2017 at the Baywalk Plaza Wednesday evening here.

Curt Manigsasa of Davao City National High School (DCNHS) bowed to a Digos City pug via split decision in the main event of the 46-kilogram light flyweight division.

Manigsasa led the boxing team with his silver haul as Cyril Ivan Revilla (44-46 kg pinweight division), Chad Andrey Fornes (40.1-42kg light paperweight division), Crestian Revilla (38.140kg mosquito weight division) and James Sagarino (36.1-38kg light mosquito weight division) each got a bronze.

Manigsasa, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said he did all he can but his opponent is just too strong to handle.

"Nag train kog maayo pero wala gihapon koy kaya sa pakusugay. Kailangan pa jud nako mag focus pa sa training ug salig sa sarili (I trained hard but I still lack power. I need to focus on training and be more confident)," Manigsasa said.

Coach Jay Reeve Guerrero of the DCNHS, in a separate interview, said they lacked training but maintained he's glad the boxers still produced a silver and three bronzes.

"We met our expectations halfway. This year is better since last year we only had three bronzes without a silver," said Guerrero whose assistant was Oscar Agape Jr. of Lower Tamugan National High School.
