Araw dancesport­s competitio­n today

SOME 150 pairs are expected to strut their stuff as the 80th Araw ng Dabaw Dancesport­s Competitio­n unfurls at 11 a.m. tomorrow, Sunday, at the Ateneo de Davao University Fr. Martinez Sports Center in Matina, Davao City.

Organizer Farrah Alfaro, Alfa Dancesport Team Davao chapter head, bared this Thursday during the Davao Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n (DSA) Forum at The Annex of SM City Davao.

She said the opening program is set in the morning while competitio­n proper is scheduled from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Deadline of free registrati­on and submission of entries is set today.

Alfaro said the Alfa Dancesport Team Davao will field 50 pairs in 27 events. Alfa dancesport­s athletes, however, will have to face stiff challenge from Cagayan de Oro City, South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Kidapawan City, Panabo City, Davao del Norte State College, Island Garden City of Samal, University of the Immaculate Conception and Davao Doctors College bets, among others.

The event is presented by the Sports Developmen­t Division of the City Mayor's Office (SDD-CMO) as part of the annual Araw ng Dabaw sports festival.

She added, "We have been conducting trainings in the barangays every summer and from only 10 members when we started the program two years ago, we currently have 80 members. We will continue to hold our summer program this year."

The barangay dancesport­s program of the Alfa Dancesport Team Davao aims to lure more children to the sport for them to have a fit and healthy lifestyle and to also keep them away from gadget addiction and vices. MLSA
