City traffic problems bared, solutions eyed

-

THE Davao City Traffic and Transport Management Office (CTTMO) presented priority traffic problems so that they can propose solutions in the coming months as part of the city's traffic management plans.

During the 3rd General Membership Meeting of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) yesterday at Grand Regal Hotel, CTTMO Officer in Charge Ret. Sr. Supt. Dionisio Abude identified the major factors that mostly cause heavy traffic in the city.

Abude cited the undetermined proper loading and unloading areas of public utility vehicles. He also mentioned Matina Crossing as a heavily trafficked road also due to road narrowing. He said that they will suggest that a road widening project should be done in the area or if not, they will propose a stricter implementation of loading and unloading of passengers at the area after the Matina overpass only.

Abude also said that they noticed that there is a high demand on parking spaces but the city does not have enough parking spaces available. He said that they would not allow establishments anymore, especially banks, to make parking lots exclusive for their clients or employees only.

"That should be a first-come-first-serve basis because it's a public property. There had been a complaint filed by a senior citizen about this in Monteverde. But we give considerations to armored cars. They will be given specific time to park there when they have operations but they should not be parked there all the time," Abude said.JPA
