Put names on manifest, Roro passengers urged

- By Juliet C. Revita

THE Maritime Industry Association 11 (Marina-11) has reminded the passengers of the roll-on-roll-off (Roro) vessels in Sasa Wharf to properly and honestly write down their names on the manifest.

Marina-11 Director Felisa Orongan bared that some passengers are taking the manifest for granted and even refuse to write down their names which is basically important in monitoring passengers ferried by Roro to the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos).

Orongan said that the manifest is the basis of the insurance company in determining who will be covered by its benefits once an accident occurs.

Passengers inside vehicles ferried by the Roro vessel do not disembark from their cars and are often bypassed on the list. Orongan said that all passengers must be logged to determine the number of passengers on board.

She underscored the importance of the manifest and educating the public about their security.

"Kung ako ang pasahero ng Roro, I will see to it na nakamanifesto ako. We want to raise awareness at kailangan talaga natin i-educate ang mga tao kung ano ang importance ng passenger manifest at hindi basta-basta lang sumusulat ka lang ng pangalan," she added.

She also cited that some passengers are not taking the list seriously and would even write names of celebrities rather than their real names.

In their last meeting, the Roro operators committed to strictly implement the passenger manifest to monitor the identity and number of passengers to avoid overloading.

"Isa yon dapat sa tinitingnan ng ating Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) before they clear the vessel for sailing," she said.
