Council approves Lyceum land use
THE 18th Davao City Council on Tuesday approved on second reading the development of the land for the Lyceum of the Phillipines University (LPU) Mindanao Campus
The Lyceum of the Philippines University Mindanao Campus will rise in a 17-hectare lot located in Sasa, Davao City.
Based on the committee report of the Committee on Housing Development Rural and Urban Development, the total land area applied for "allowable use" is around 166,512 square meters or 16.6 hectares.
The area is originally classified as commercial (C-2) and medium density residential.
Paolo Laurel, LPU executive assistant to the president, who represented LPU Batangas and Laguna campuses president Peter Laurel, during the committee hearing reiterated before the committee the commitment of LPU in providing Dabawenyos affordable education with high quality standards courses that the university can offer.
The committee report also stated that Roy Ryan Rigor, City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) assistant city planning development officer, favorably endorsed the project considering
its socio-economic, environmental, and national significance.
During last week’s session, Architect Jim Abalayon assured the City Council that they have eyed alternative water resources for the building that will soon rise in Sasa, Davao city.
He also assured the council that they are considering construct the school in accordance to the green building code and they also intend to install solar panels on rooftops of the buildings. They will also be having green spaces in the school.
He said that that they plan to start the construction of the first phase of the project by May.
