Easter means hope at the Waterfront
Kids’ first thoughts about Easter are typically of bunnies and eggs, and perhaps it was just right to bring out the most important thing that might have been forgotten in the history of Easter traditions – and that is hope.
On April 16, Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao celebrated Easter Sunday with much more meaning as they’ve invited the Kids of Hope from the House of Hope Foundation to participate in the activities with local residents.
Dubbed “Easter Means Hope: A Rockin’ Easter Egg Hunt Party with the Kids of Hope”, the event held at the Grand Agila Ballroom featured fun games and entertainment for all participating guests.
A game of “Bring Me” started the lineup of activities, warming up about 80 kids. The fastest ones to bring up the items on the House Easter Bunny’s list got a bagful of treats. The second game, called “The Easter Egg Puzzle,” included two teams of five where team leaders (two volunteer parents or guardians) had to rush out the foyer and find the giant eggs, each with 24 puzzle pieces for their respective teams to solve together.
The team winners each got a Waterfront powerbank while the other team players also got loot items as consolation prizes.
A Magic Show came up next, much to the kids’ surprise. All so hyped up even after the show ended, they were treated to yet another game titled “Musical Easter Baskets”, an alternative to “Musical Chairs” where instead of chairs, a number of Easter baskets were arranged, one fewer than the number of players. Each had one egg to shoot on any of the empty baskets until one player was left in the game. The winner received a complimentary pool pass for two and a Waterfront cap.
At around 4 pm, shortly after afternoon snacks have been served, children, parents and guardians headed out to the Garden Area just outside the lobby to hunt for almost a thousand eggs.
Respective egg hunting areas for ages 2 to 6 and 7 to 12 were cordoned off until participants were all given a go-signal. Easter bunnies, hotel souvenirs, gift certificates and complimentary pool passes were all given to those who collected the most number of eggs for each age category and those who found the four special eggs hidden in both areas.
Special awards were also handed to 2-year old Aika who came with the cutest Easter costume.
Rounding up the series of activities for a rockin’ finale was a bunch of kids below 10 years old, who everybody came to know as the Lightheart Band coached by choir extraordinaire, Peter Ian Buaya. Inspired by the 2003 film School of Rock, five of them brought out their musical talents in hopes of giving inspiration to kids their age.
With this event, Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao had hoped to provide a fun-filled memory for the children of the Kids of Hope Foundation because all children must have a great sense of wonder and excitement, even those with cancer.
