DAVAO CITY Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) said that they had collected a total of 120 tons of trash from the coastal area during the cleanup drive they had conducted on Earth Day, April 22.

Cenro Head Engr. Eliza Madrazo, during the ISpeak media forum, said that they did not only find plastic bottles but also diapers and plastic wraps in the north side river bank areas of the city.

Madrazo alleged that the plastic bags were probably trashes from market vendors. She added that they noticed an increase of trashes collected compared to last year.

She said the increased number of plastic bottles may also be due to the changes in the selling price of recycled bottles, adding that buyers of plastic bottles have been complaining about the cheap selling price of the bottles that is no more than P20.

Madrazo also said they will bring this matter to the city’s infrastructure project to have a solution regarding the problem. ASD and PTS
