- By Marianne L. Saberon-Abalayan

FC Meralco Manila Sparks, which is on top of the Philippine Football League (PFL) with nine points from three wins, will try to improve one game at a time as it eyes the championship title.

Sparks coach Aris Caslib, in a media interview at Cafe Marco, Marco Polo Davao, in Davao City Monday, said, "In the last three games we performed better but there is still a lot of room for improvement. We never expected a tough battle with Ilocos. We will see in the next few matches."

He was pertaining to the game against Ilocos United who they edged, 2-1.

FC Meralco Manila also blanked JPV Marikina, 1-0, and routed Stallion, 5-1.

"The eight teams in the league share the same goal of winning the championship. Hopefully, the team will improve in a match to match basis. We will do our best in our day to day training session and during match time," Caslib said.

Sparks skipper James Younghusband, for his part, said: "We started the league, winning our last three games. We're very happy with how we are doing in this tournament. It is really great!"

Younghusband, however, added, "We can't be complacent. But we just need to keep doing what we are doing. It's quite a long season and we will be playing each team twice in the home and away."

Caslib and Younghusband were in Davao City to grace the opening of the Mindanao Football Invitational for 15 years old and under players. The bootfest, which opened Monday at the Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Matina field, is organized by the Mindanao Peace Games.

The Sparks will play Davao Aguilas FC in June.
