Mayor gets jail term for graft
A GOVERNMENT official in Surigao del Norte has been sentenced with imprisonment of six to 10 years after he was found guilty for graft and corruption.
The Office of the Ombudsman, on its official website, confirmed that Sandiganbayan has sentenced Pilar town Mayor Lucio Gonzales of the province to an imprisonment of six to 10 years.
Gonzales was earlier charged with violation of Republic Act 3019, otherwise known as The AntiGraft and Corrupt Practices Act.
The official was also perpetually disqualified from holding public office.
Ombudsman prosecutors had proven that Gonzales committed graft when he removed Victor Literato as a municipal agriculturist in May 2007.
