Long water interruption on Saturday explained
DAVAO CITY Water District said the low water pressure to no water in some connections on Saturday was due to an emergency power interruption in National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’s (NGCP) Digos 69kv transmission line along Libby Road, Puan.
DCWD Spokesperson Bernard Delima in a statement said due to the power interruption at 9:30 p.m of June 23, 2017, most of the DCWD’s wells under the Dumoy Water Supply System were not able to operate and that power resumed only at 1:10 a.m of June 24, 2017.
“While the DCWD’s facilities were still recovering from the emergency power interruption, the DCWD’s mainline along McArthur Highway corner Libby Road in Puan leaked due to high pressure,” he said.
Delima said the DCWD had to shut off its lines to allow its crew to do an emergency mainline leak repair.
He said the time of repair was estimated to end at 5:00 p.m due to the extent of the damage but was completed earlier at 11:20 a.m.
Delima said the water began to flow by 12 noon.
“The nearest areas to our Talomo sump reservoir had water at earliest. Far areas especially downtown, Bajada and Obrero took longer because of the pressure build-up,” he said.
In an text message to Sun.Star Davao, Delima said they are not able to provide an exact time as to when the water in some areas normalized.
“Kusog ang take out sa near areas if coming from prolonged interruption. Sa Obrero and Agdao 7pm to 10 pm na,” he said. KVC
