Fake ID maker sued

-

A MAN is facing charges before the court for producing fake local and national governmentissued documents and identification cards (IDs) here in Davao City.

Charged with falsification under article 172 and article 176 in relation to article 176 of the Revised Penal Code, is Mark Anthony Montecalvo Pasion, a shop owner here.

In a two-page resolution, the prosecution office found probable cause to charge the accused based on the complaint filed by retired Chief Inspector Simplicio Sagarino.

Sagarino, in his affidavit, attested that the accused has been making various fake government IDs, such as Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Tin card, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) card, other IDs and license cards.

In a report obtained from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 11, Pasion was arrested inside an establishment on Bolton Street here at around 2 p.m. on June 6.

The entrapment operation was developed after the NBI 11 in coordination with other authorities here conducted its surveillance at a mall in between C.M. Recto Street and Bolton Street, where the accused was operating at a Stall 10.

A verification from the BIR and Davao City Health Department was made, but the offices certified that the certificates issued by the accused to a certain Jennifer Landero were fake. The two offices

never issued such cards, according to them.

The suspect was arrested after he completed the transaction and handed one Bureau of Internal Revenue Tin ID and one Philippine Health Insurance Corporation ID to the NBI agent, who posed as a customer.

Authorities recovered P300 cash, assorted government-issued IDs, two computer units with keyboard and printer, one laminating machine, assorted flash drives/ USB, one ruler, and several other documents.

NBI-Davao director Arnold Rosales earlier said the operation was conducted following the mandate of intensifying the monitoring operation against proliferation of fake issued documents and printing of various counterfeited ID cards.

Rosales said the illegal act may be used by unscrupulous individuals in gaining entry/access to the city to commit acts that may endanger public safety especially with the current peace and order situation in the region and in Mindanao. ICT
