Pag-ibig nips GJCC, 87-81

PAG-IBIG Homes scored a debut 8781 victory over GJCC Calibrator­s in the resumption of the FKA AgriChemic­al Corporatio­n-backed Catalunan Grande Summer League (CGSL) Invitation­al Basketball Tournament held at the Monte Maria Village Covered Court in Catalunan Grande over the weekend.

Tom Miranda made an explosive 29 points while teammate Kenzo Lao chipped in 21 points to lead the debuting team to a 1-0 standing in the cagefest sponsored by Davies, The Royal Mandaya Hotel, Tanduay, Mahugani Security Agency, Bearing Center and Machinery Inc., Mikki's Lechon, El Grande Cooperativ­e and Pantoja Marketing.

The Calibrator­s, which dropped to 0-2, leaned on the service of Arnold Sison and Dan Marata who made 30 points combined in a losing effort.

Mad Gaus, meanwhile, survived past Mahiwaga 79-77 via overtime.

Karlo Cajes led the charge for Mad Gaus, dropping 23 points including seven crucial baskets at the stretch.

Teammate Michael Tapia swished in 22 points to help Mad Gaus remained unbeaten after two outings.

Reb Martinez erupted with 25 points including five treys for Mahiwaga in a losing cause.

Mahiwaga stayed at the cellar with a 0-2 record.

Pag-ibig Heights, meanwhile, won over struggling Paseo Grande 65-57, in a seesaw affair.

Canor Cortez canned 14 points for the 2-1 record holder Pag-ibig Heights.

Danny Bigcas and Caloy Cirillo made an identical 12 points for the winless Paseo Grande.
