Lawmaker: Robredo, Sereno may face impeachment, August
MANILA -- Impeachment complaints may be filed against Vice President Maria Leonor "Leni" Robredo and Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno this August, a lawmaker said Sunday.
Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) partylist Representative Jericho Nograles in a radio interview said more impeachment raps may be lodged before the House of Representatives against Robredo.
"Pero kung merong maipa-file 'yan (impeachment rap vs. Robredo), meron nang endorser 'yan," Nograles said.
Two persons have attempted to file an impeachment rap against Robredo but both failed after getting no endorsement from any lawmakers.
Nograles said he already knew who are the ones behind the plan, but refused to disclose their identities.
He, however, cited Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez's earlier threat of filing a series of complaints against Robredo and Sereno when the congress' session resumes on July 24.
Alvarez earlier warned Sereno of impeachment after reports that she had instructed the Associate Justices of the Court of Appeals' fourth division to defy the show cause order issued by the House of Representatives.
The House committee on good government earlier issued a show cause order compelling the CA Justices to explain their decisions favoring the six Ilocos officials detained
over their refusal to answer lawmakers' questions during the probe on the alleged anomalous use of Ilocos province's tobacco excise tax.
Nograles said there is a possibility that the complainants will seek for his endorsement.
The lawmaker earlier refused to endorse the complaint against Robredo, as it is, he said, was "not deserving of his endorsement."
