SM SuperMalls organized a National Book Reading Day at the SM City Annex in Davao City on Tuesday featuring no less than Veronica Duterte, the youngest presidential daughter.

Thirteen year-old Veronica, who is nicknamed Kitty, proves to shine on her own as she sat with pupils from Values School and Euro Asia Emil's Child Early Development to read them a Filipino children's book titled Two Friends, One World written by Palanca awardee Ramon Sunico.

Kitty, who's a constant figure during the president's campaign and other dealings, is definitely a book-lover herself. After her event, she was kind enough to get close with the media and answer some of their questions. She shared that Veronica Roth, the author of best-selling series 'Divergent', is her favorite novelist. And when asked whether she prefers to read e-book or traditional ones, she answered, "traditional books are better for me".

Earlier this year, Kitty graduated with honors from Stella Maris Academy of Davao and was named her batch's "Best in Current Events" and "Third Honors in Chinese."

Along with her at the National Book Reading Day was SM group marketing manager Aron Dalaza who also read a Filipino story entitled “Bumabara-bara” by Fernando Rosal Gonzalez.

In SM Lanang Premier, SM regional leasing manager Jerome Yeo and events host Joey Sy-Domingo were the featured readers.

“We take lead from the Department of Education who continues to inspire us in contributing to our common goal of child development and in uplifting the level of education in our country,” SM City Davao mall manager Lynette Lopez shares.

At present, SM Supermalls serves as many as 4 million customers a day, with almost half being children. SM believes that learning is not restricted inside the four corners of a classroom, as they care for each and every child that enters their mall by promoting their rights, prioritizing their safety and enhancing their learning experience in a child-friendly environment.

On its 9th year, the Children’s Bookreading Day at SM is supported by Vibal Publishing, Unicef, Anvil Publishing and National Bookstore.
