Proposed extra security on fishing boats nixed
A PROPOSAL for a resolution ordinance authorizing barangay captains or barangay authorities to monitor boats used by fisherman entering into the city in coastal barangays was nixed yesterday due to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)’s assurance on the security of the city's coastline.
Davao City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang’s proposal on passing a resolution ordinance authorizing barangay authorities to monitor fisherman ships in coastal areas for contrabands, drugs, and items used for rebellion did not push through after Davao City Councilor Nilo Abellera read the reply made by the AFP,
following the city’s request for one battalion and two boats to monitor the coastal areas of the city.
Abellera said that the AFP, on July 19 replied to the letter sent last June 16, 2017 addressed to General Eduardo Año stating that the city has the 16th Infantry Battalion is in the city, and they will deploy the additional battalion to the city after the Marawi Siege.
Peace and Order Committee Chair Abellera said there is no need for such mobilization of barangay captains granting that the AFP has assured the security of the city.
Earlier, Dayanghirang stated that shabu and other contrabands may be easily slipped to areas in second and third district, adjoining the coastal and maritime authorities to support the initiative.
He said that his district has worth P250 million unused equipment which could have been helpful for the security.
