Crime down by 44%

-

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio lauded the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) led by Acting Davao City Police City Director Senior Supt. Alexander Tagum for the 44 percent decrease in crime rate in Davao City for the second quarter of 2017.

"The city mayor and the City Government of Davao is proud and very happy with the report. We commend the Davao City Police Office and the team of Alex Tagum because Davao City has recorded a significant decrease of the crime rate for the past two quarters," City Administrator Zuleika Lopez said.

Tagum, in an interview, said they noted a significant decrease of crime rate in the second quarter of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016.

"For the reported period in the second quarter of 2017, as compared to 2016 nagreduce po tayo ng 44 percent. Basically all the common crimes including murder, physical injury, theft, robbery all declined," he said.

He added that the key to the success is the enhancement of the police integrated patrol system, through the Oplan Integrated Revitalized Operation of Neighborhood-Watch of the Mega City (Oplan IRON City), which called for the formation of police auxiliary unit as additional forces to help the police securing the city.

"My first request to the city mayor is the approval of the activation of the volunteer police auxiliary because we have to maximize our police deployment with the volunteer police auxiliary body in all city streets of Davao," he said.

He added that the volunteer auxiliary police act as first responder on the streets which also help in lessened cases of gang war or gang problems.

Around 900 police auxiliary underwent training and were deployed by the city.

Based on previous reports, every auxiliary officer will receive a monthly allowance of P6,000 along with other benefits from the local government.

The recruitment for the police auxiliary came after Mayor Duterte-Carpio signed the proposal of acting DCPO director Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum.KVC
