No special rooms at Maa jail: BJMP

THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 11 (BJMP 11) belied rumors that there are special rooms for the use of high-profile inmates inside the Davao City Jail in Maa simply because they do not have enough space for all inmates.

Jail Senior Inspector Roberto C. Gotico, head of the BJMP-11 Personnel Record and Management Division (PRMC) and Human Resources Division, said the bureau could not afford to have special rooms.

Based on their data, highrisk inmates include five Maute/ ISIS/bomb experts, three Abu Sayyaf group members, nine New People’s Army members, six Moro Islamic Liberation Front members, two soldiers of Armed Forces of the Philippine­s, four officers of Philippine National Police, 18 members of organized crime groups, one escapee, two political prisoners, and a gun for hire in DCJ.

According to him, the Maute members are held in a separate detention cell while their trial is still ongoing.

“The threat is continuing dahil sa high profile at high risk inmate’s natin,” he said.

Congestion Rosero said the congestion inside the jail remains to be a problem at DCJ and they have been conducting several interventi­ons to help facilitate and fast-track the release of prisoners who have completed their sentence.KVC (For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/ davao/)
