- By Bomie Lane S. Castillo

DEPARTMENT of Education 11 (Deped 11) assured that all Lumad schools in the region are registered and regularly assessed preceding President Rodrigo Roa-Duterte (PRRD)’s statement to stop the operation of Lumad schools in the country during his 2017 State of the Nation Address (Sona) last July 24.

Deped 11 spokesperson Jenielito Atillo, in an interview with Sun.Star Davao, said 74 Lumad schools in the region were issued a permit to operate for the school year 2017 to 2018.

“Before the school year even started, Deped 11 already checked the existing and newly-established Lumad schools in the region through our 10 division offices,” Atillo said.

He added that the division offices in the region also guaranteed that there are no existing Lumad schools that are illegally operating as division officers are conducting regular monitoring.

The division offices, Atillo said, also monitor the curriculum in Lumad schools every beginning and end of each quarter, assuring that there are no schools that teach communism as what PRRD claimed during the recent Sona.

“Although the curriculum in Lumad schools are far bit different from the non-Lumad schools as subjects are less difficult, the divisions have so far did not encounter any report on schools being used to teach subversion or communism,” Atillo said.

Atillo said Deped 11 will continue monitoring the performances of registered Lumad schools in the region, assuring that

no schools will be subjected to any violation. He added that the department will also immediately conduct appropriate actions on any school regulation infracture report from the division offices.

He added that Deped 11 supports PRRD and, thus, will strengthen the regulations in Lumad schools in the region. BSC

Ledesma said Office of the Court administrator Atty. Midas Marquez in reply of their petition issued an order directing the two judges handling the cases including Judge Evalyn Arellano Morales currently handling the terrorism case.
