Samal launches 'Adopt a Child' program
SAMAL ISLAND - In line with the celebration of the 43rd Nutrition Month Culmination Day, the City Health Office (CHO) of the Island Garden City of Samal has launched the “Adopt a Child Program” on July 31, 2017 at the Samal Cultural Gymnasium.
The Adopt a Child program aims to alleviate the plight of identified malnourished children in Samal Island.
“Adopt a Child means sponsor one malnourished child as a recipient of the 120 days feeding program of milk and egg so these children will be rehabilitated to normal state and will have a brighter tomorrow,” Samal City Health Officer doctor Dennis Flores said.
Government and nongovernment entities are invited to take part in this program. Willing individuals may visit the Nutrition Section of Samal City Health Office for more details.
Meanwhile, with this year’s theme “Healthy Diet Gawing Habit for Life”, the culmination activity for the Nutrition Month included a Dance Exercise Contest, Cook Fest and Food Display, Search for Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar, and Best Performing Barangay Competition.
Around 400 individuals composed of Community Volunteer Health Workers, Barangay Nutrition Action Officer (BNAO), Barangay Sanitary Inspector (BSI), Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS), and Barangay Health Worker (BHW) had participated in the activity.
“I am delighted that I saw many individuals here to participate in our culmination day, this is a positive thing to us and a good sign that our city is truly exerting [its] effort regarding the nutrition activity,” Samal City Nutrition Action Officer doctor Austerio Obenza said.
