THE Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) will strengthen its position as a premiere Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, Events (Mice) destination in the country following the soon-tobe-launched Philippine Airline (PAL) domestic flight between the cities of Davao and Tagbilaran, Bohol.

CTOO head Generose Tecson told SunStar Davao in an interview that the new air link is a welcome development.

"This will open new possibilities for both destinations," she said.

The new route is expected to be launched on November this year.

She added that the route will be sustained as travelers whether for business or pleasure will always opt the fastest and most comfortable way to reach their destination.

Last week, this development was revealed by Bohol Governor Edgar Chatto during the Management Executive Board meeting at the People's Mansion in Tagbilaran City.

Last month, Cebu Pacific Air launched Davao - Tacloban and Davao Dumaguete route.

Also in April, another airline firm, AirAsia also launched five direct domestic flights from and to Davao - Cebu, Clark, Caticlan/Boracay and Puerto Princesa.

For international flight, AirAsia launched its Davao-Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia direct flight.

With these new air links, the Davao tourism stakeholders are optimistic that it will strengthen air connectivity and boost

the tourism and business industry in the area despite Martial Law in the island until end of the year.

Based on the Department of Tourism 11 data, tourist arrivals last year reached 1.8 million as against 1.7 million in 2015.
