14 games open Kadayawan girls volleyball tourney

FOURTEEN games will be on hand when the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC)-backed Kadayawan Girls Volleyball Tournament kicks off at 9 a.m. today at the University of Mindanao (UM) Gym in Matina, Davao City.

Tournament director Abet Bernan of the Balibolist­a de Dabaw bared this to Sun.Star Davao yesterday.

Matina Central Elementary School (MCES) clashes against Kabacan Elementary School (KES) in Pool A while Buhangin Central Elementary School (BCES) battles Jose Bastida Elementary School (JBES) in Pool B curtain raiser.

Other games pit VF Corcuera Elementary School (VFCES) against (vs) Tambobong Elementary School (TES), Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Sr. Elementary School (KTMSES) vs Talanding Elementary School at 10 a.m.; Sirawan Elementary­School (SES) vs TES, Vicente Hizon Sr. Elementary School (VHSES) vs Talanding at 11 a.m.; MCES vs VFCES, BCES vs KTMSES at 1 p.m.; KES vs VFCES, JBES vs KTMSES at 2 p.m.; SES vs MCES, VHSES vs BCES at 3 p.m.; TES vs MCES and Talanding vs BCES at 4 p.m.

A simple parade of teams will usher the opening ceremonies that will be graced by PSC Chairman William "Butch" Ramirez and PSC Commission­er Charles Raymond A. Maxey.

Cash prizes await winners of the volleyfest that aims to provide opportunit­y for public elementary school girls teams, including those from far-flung areas, to compete.

The Department of Education (Deped) Davao City reportedly selected the schools that are entered in the event organized in coordinati­on with the city government of Davao through the Sports Developmen­t Division of the City Mayor's Office. MLSA
