1st Kadayawan dragon boat competition starts tomorrow
THE green light is on for the staging of the 1st Kadayawan Festival National Dragon Boat Competition that will unwrap tomorrow at the Sta. Ana Wharf.
Clarice Jane Calolot of Dragons del Sur, who is also the event chair, bared this in the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum held at the Family Room of NCCC Mall B3 yesterday.
Calolot said Davao City-bound technical officials from the Philippine Canoe Kayak Dragon Boat Federation (PCKDBF), a recognized National Sports Association (NSA) of the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), will be facilitating the event as it is the first time to be included in the Kadayawan Sports Festival calendar.
"This event was included because the city wanted to showcase that Davao City has the potential to host international and national Dragon Boat competitions," Calolot said, adding that this is also in line with the grassroots development program of the PSC.
She also announced that a total of 10 licensed champion dragon boats will be used in the event.
Davao City's very own Dragons del Sur will compete against four Manila-based teams, Philippine Airforce, Philippine National Police (PNP) Maritime, Cebu Ariya Dragon Boat, Team Dipolog, Team Hilera of Dumaguete, Aqua Fotis and SeaHawks in open standard, mixed standard, women's small boat, mix small boat and open small boat categories.
The champion in standard competitions will be receiving P20,000 while the next two placers will have P15,000 and P10,000 courtesy of SDD-CMO.
The top three winners of the small boat events, meanwhile, will take home P15,000, P10,000 and P5,000, respectively. ABM
