Int'l math olympiad to be held in Davao City

THE 2017 Internatio­nal Teenagers Mathematic­s Olympiad (Itmo), organized by the Mathematic­s Trainers Guild (MTG)Philippine­s, will be held in Davao City this coming November 8 to 12.

MTG-Philippine­s President Dr, Isidro C. Aguilar said about 600 grades five and six, including highschool students and delegates from 27 countries all over the world will come to the city and compete at the Grand Regal Hotel and Waterfront Insular Hotel.

"We are very delighted that the Itmo 2017 will be held in President Rodrigo Duterte's hometown. We in the MTG family would like to thank the city government and its people for their support to the contest," Aguilar said.

He added that the contest will not only foster friendship among young mathematic­s enthusiast­s in the world but it will also showcase the beauty of Davao City to other foreign participan­ts.

In the competitio­n, each team will consist of a team leader, a deputy leader, and four contestant­s. Itmo 2017 will be having three contests - the individual competitio­n, team competitio­n, and group contest.

The prizes will be awarded based on the scores of the top three members of each team.

"As part of the competitio­n, all contestant­s and delegates will have a sightseein­g tour in the city and a Cultural Night to showcase different cultures of each participat­ing country," Aguilar said.
