Police aide busted

- By Juliet C. Revita

A MEMBER of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Volunteer Police Auxiliary (VPA), considered a high value target, was arrested in a drug bust operation on Sunday night, August 27 at Remedios Heights, Cabantian, Buhangin, Davao City.

Based on the police report of Sasa Police Station, their Drug Enforcement Team led by PO3 Ernesto Abanto Jr., with the supervision of Police Senior Inspector Noel Villahermosa, in coordination with PDEA 11 and the personnel of Buhangin Police Station conducted a joint antiillegal drug operation at about 9:30 p.m.

Arrsted was one Rogelio Orapa Arabilla Jr. alias Jun-jun, 42, a resident of Purok 3, Communal, Buhangin, Davao City and a VPA assigned in Buhangin Police Station.

Authorities recovered from the suspect’s possession and control were one small rectangular heat-sealed, transparent plastic sachet and a bigger one, both containing crystalline substance believed to be shabu, and a motorcycle. The P1,000 marked bill was also taken from him.

The suspect is an HVT of the Sasa Police Station and is suspected to be the one pushing drugs in Sasa and Buhangin.

Arabilla is temporarily detained at Sasa Police Station while a case is being prepared for possession of illegal drugs under Republic Act No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, DCPO city director Police Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said in an interview on the sidelines of Kapehan sa Dabaw that he called for an investigation as to why the arrested person involved in illegal drugs was able to qualify as one of the city’s VPA.

“Bakit nakalusot ito sa aming ginagawang background investigation sa lahat ng applicant sa lahat ng volunteer police auxiliary papaano to nakalusot sa aming intelligence monitoring na lahat sana mga volunteer auxiliary naming ay hindi involved sa criminality,” he said.

The arrest, he added, proved that they do not tolerate the illegal activities undertaken by their personnel, as he vowed to run after his personnel who are linked to irregularities and put them behind the bar.

“This also shows to the people of Davao City that there will be no holy cow in the city of Davao regardless if you are a member of the DCPO or VPA. If you commit any crime or you are involve in any criminality, hahabulin namin kayo, huhulihin naman kayo at ikukulong naming kayo,” he warned.
