My coffee boy zeroing in on Bing, soon to be Rody’s idol

-

REMEMBER Bing Leonardia?

He is now Bacolod City mayor.

He’s back at City Hall after a short stint in Congress.

To most Congressmen, Congress is boring, a place where grandstanding is mostly the order of the day for the majority of its inhabitants. Ugh!

But as mayor, they are busy as a bee.

One such guy has said to me: “As mayor, we move around, work with people, stay with my constituents to be able to serve them better.”

You know who that guy is?

Not Bing Leonardia—although he could have easily said that to me, too.

Rodrigo Roa Duterte it was who said that classic line to me.

That was years ago, when Prez Rody was congressman of Davao.

Before Rody’s stint in Congress—good for one term only as he said he was bored to death—I’ve been his “glass mate” for the longest time.

For, each time I visited Davao, Digong and I would bump into each other at Ken Angeles’ “After Dark” bar, splitting up only almost in the wee hours of the morning.

One time while I was visiting Cong Mat Defensor in Congress, I crossed paths with Digong.

Digong said, “Oh, Al, nice to see you. You haven’t been to Davao for quite a while.”

“You are not the mayor anymore so, what’s the point in me visiting your beloved city?”

He put his arms around my shoulders and said, “Come, buddy, let’s go to SM Megamall. It’s boring here.”

At Megamall. Cong Duterte bought Mizuno T-shirts and, after coffee at Starbucks, we said our goodbyes.

“Promise, please visit me always in Congress, OK?” he said.

Now Rody is President of the Republic. Destiny, indeed, is unfathomable.

Back to Bing Leonardia.

I don’t see him waving the Philippine flag anymore in Pacquiao’s recent fights.

Never mind. What I am more happy about Bing Leonardia now was his move to buy shredders for waste management problems in Bacolod. (I’ve been an organic warrior for quite sometime now.)

Said shredders from RUShredder Co. would process biodegradable wastes into organic fertilizer for use by barangays under RA 9003 known as the Waste Organic Law.

Cheers to you, Mayor, for your mission to make a healthier, chemical-free nation starting in Bacolod.

President Duterte would only be too happy seeing you do that. Cheers!
