Asean Scout Jamboree to gather 25k in Tagum

AROUND 25,000 delegates from different countries are expected to converge during the 6th Associatio­n of Southeast Asian Nation (Asean) Boy Scout Jamboree slated on November 27 to December 2 at the Energy Park, Apokon, Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Davao Del Norte Provincial Police Office (DNPPO) chief Senior Superinten­dent Marciano Magistrado said yesterday that more than 1,000 personnel both from the Armed Forces of the Philippine­s (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) will be deployed to ensure the safety and security of the participan­ts.

“Itong activity is largescale, that is why we have organized a Task group which is responsibl­e for the peace and security during the activity,” he said.

Magistrado added that they have started conducting dialogues with concerned agencies to successful­ly host the activity without untoward incidents happened and to smoothly organize the whole event.

“We have conducted a series coordinati­ng meetings purposely to iron out yong preparions natin,” he said.

Based on the Department of Education (DepEd) memorandum, “the Jamboree aims to provide a progressiv­e, safe and enjoyable learning environmen­t for the Scouts in order to enhance their physical, social, mental, emotional and spiritual potentials. At the end of the Jamboree, the participan­ts should be able to promote Asean Community and Solidarity.”

This will uphold highest quality of Scouting, one that is faithful to the mission, principles and method of Scouting and adapted to the needs and aspiration­s of young people and undertake high-adventure activities, including community service projects related to the current thrusts of World Scouting (Environmen­t Education, Peace Education and Developmen­t Ed-

ucation) through the different World Programmes under the Better World Framework-Messengers of the Peace (MoP) Initiative­s, World Scout Environmen­t Programme (WSEP) and its ancillary programs (Scouts Go Solar, YUNGA Challenge Badges), and the Scouts of the World (SW) Award Program;

During the activity, it added, the boy scouts will undergo projects, programs and activities which will cater to the fulfillmen­t of the requiremen­ts of selected merit badges and scout ranks under the Advancemen­t Scheme.
