Midsayap reclaims streetdance title
KIDAPAWAN CITY - The 2014 Kalivungan Streetdancing grand champion Midsayap reclaimed its title after topping this year's competition held at the Capitol Grandstand in Barangay Amas here recently.
Midsayap was also awarded as first runnerup last 2015 in the same competition.
Street dancing is now North Cotabato’s interest as it provides opportunity for tourists, guests, family members, friends, and visitors to watch the grand competition for free. It is initiated and facilitated by the Provincial Government of Cotabato and the Department of Education to showcase the cultural dances of the tri-people in the province -Christians, Muslims and Manobos.
Five entries joined the 2017 competition: Kidapawan City represented by Central Mindanao Colleges, Midsayap by St. Jude College of Science and Technology, Banisilan by Samala National High School, Carmen by Carmen National High School, and M’lang by Lika National High School.
Participants were judged based on street dancing (30 percent) - describes the choreographed dance during parade and dance showdown (70 percent) - whole showcase of the tribe’s presentation.
The champion received P300,000 cash prize while runner-up M'lang was second (P200,000) followed by Banisilan third (P100,000). Consolation prizes of P50,000 each were given to non-winners.
