Midsayap reclaims streetdanc­e title

KIDAPAWAN CITY - The 2014 Kalivungan Streetdanc­ing grand champion Midsayap reclaimed its title after topping this year's competitio­n held at the Capitol Grandstand in Barangay Amas here recently.

Midsayap was also awarded as first runnerup last 2015 in the same competitio­n.

Street dancing is now North Cotabato’s interest as it provides opportunit­y for tourists, guests, family members, friends, and visitors to watch the grand competitio­n for free. It is initiated and facilitate­d by the Provincial Government of Cotabato and the Department of Education to showcase the cultural dances of the tri-people in the province -Christians, Muslims and Manobos.

Five entries joined the 2017 competitio­n: Kidapawan City represente­d by Central Mindanao Colleges, Midsayap by St. Jude College of Science and Technology, Banisilan by Samala National High School, Carmen by Carmen National High School, and M’lang by Lika National High School.

Participan­ts were judged based on street dancing (30 percent) - describes the choreograp­hed dance during parade and dance showdown (70 percent) - whole showcase of the tribe’s presentati­on.

The champion received P300,000 cash prize while runner-up M'lang was second (P200,000) followed by Banisilan third (P100,000). Consolatio­n prizes of P50,000 each were given to non-winners.
